Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry or Biology.
ASCP or AMT certification or eligible to take the certification.
Associate degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science with ASCP or AMT certification or eligible to take the certification.
Previous work experience in high complexity testing preferred.

Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job.
He or she may perform other duties which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1.
Documents results appropriately after reviewing for accuracy, validity and reasonableness of results.
Investigates any questionable result prior to reporting.
2.
Performs and documents quality control, start up and maintenance procedures according to established protocol.
3.
Investigates, resolves and documents all quality control or maintenance out of control instances according to protocol.
4.
Communicates according to policy with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff panic values and results that do not appear appropriate for the patient.
5.
Collects specimens assuring the patient is properly identified and the specimen is properly labeled.
6.
Monitors and receives supplies into the department according to established procedures, storing them appropriately.
Notifies supervisor when supplies appear to be low.
7.
Follows safety and infection control policies.
8.
Actively participates in continuing education as is offered.
9.
Completes workload and communicates the status of pending work to the on-coming shift.
10.
Completes annual competency, mandatory safety programs and OSHA requirements.
11.
Investigates documents and reports all complaints or problems encountered during the shift.
Communicates problems to supervisor.
